Texturing

Texturing

With some models, you may want a stone or concrete effect rather than the usual smooth sides you will get from untreated mdf.

I have used filler to get this result on models such as the church and statue bases.

I will get a nice lump of filler out of the pot and into a smaller pot of some description and then add a few drops of water at a time, mixing well until you get a smoother texture to the filler. This can then be “painted” and dappled onto the model to give a rough finish. The main thing to do is poke and dapple the filler with the brush once it is on the model so you don’t get any brush marks.

When it is good and dry, it can be undercoated and drybrushed to get a great finish.
