Blacksmiths – TUD14

Pre-Painting

The buildings have been designed to allow for easy pre-painting of the components.

If you want to paint the inside of each level, you may prefer to do so before gluing the walls to the floor.

The outside walls of each level can be painted after they are glued to each floor but before the decorative beams are attached.

The floor support beams and decorative beams can be painted before they are glued to each level.

Sprues

Please note that some sprues or parts may vary slightly.

Ground Floor

The build for the Blacksmiths has been split into several sections, the main base, the forge and then the roof.

Start with the three stable partitions and add the round caps to the end of each partition.

Next you need the main base and the central dividing wall.

Fix the stable partitions to the central wall.

Then fix the wall and partitions to the base.

Arrange the four sides of the blacksmiths as shown.

You also need the central roof spacer (shown below already fitted, yes, I forgot that bit when I was taking the photographs).

Add the two side walls AND include the central spacer.

Then add the stable side and forge side frames.

The decorative beams can then be added to each side.

And to the stable side.

And to the forge side.

There are two decorative beams components for the central wall on the forge side.

These fit securely into the sides.

There are additional thin beams to make boxy posts on the stable side of the blacksmith.

Fit the thinner part first to the central wall.

Then fit the wider part.

The Forge

The forge has quiet a few small parts so it is recommended to lay them out as each step is undertaken.

The first stage is to build the forge oven (?)

Glue the two sides to the top piece but slotting them together.

Then add the piece with the opening to the furnace.

Add the top piece.

Followed by the two sides. Care is necessary to make sure they are fitted square to the top.

The forge should be dry fitted to the central wall of the blacksmith at this stage to check it aligns before the glue dries.

There are quite a few small components to make the front section of the forge.

Start with these bits.

Make a U shape frame onto the small base.

Then add the sides as below.

Add the grill spacer.

Then the grill.

Make sure the grill is facing out!

This component can now be added to the main forge.

Add the top U piece.

And fix the furnance surround.

Next is the main chimney.

Make the stack as below ensuring there are two raised tabs at the bottom where there is no stone effect.

Then add the single piece to the bottom and the three top parts as show.

The chimney should be dryfitted at this stage to make sure all the components align before the glue dries.

There are a number of eyelets and mounting plates that are to be fitted anywhere you can find a 2mm square hole!

They are on most of the posts with a few extra on the central wall

Note there are two eyelets on the stable side wall.

Roof

If not already glued in place, the forge and chimney should be glued in place.

It is easier to have painted by this stage.

Start with the roof component that sits above the chimney. This part has a very small cutout that sits around the stack.

Then add the piece over the forge.

Finally add the roof over the stables.

The roof edge trim can be added. Glue the wider trim first followed by the narrower trim.

Done!
